Mercury's Caloris Basin

Mercury's Caloris Basin. The basin, which resembles similar circular basins on the Moon, is about 800 miles across and was probably formed by a gigantic impact early in the planet's history. It is believed to have been subsequently filled by lava flows. The basin is surrounded by a pattern of concentric rings of mountains.
