Robert L. Curbeam, Jr.

Selected by NASA in December 1994, Robert L. Curbeam, Jr. reported to the Johnson Space Center in March 1995. In 1997 he flew as a mission specialist on STS-85 (Discovery). Curbeam is assigned to serve on the crew of STS-99 and is currently in training preparing for the spacewalks required for on-orbit construction of the International Space Station. STS-99 is targeted for launch in the summer of 1999.

Curbeam was born March 5, 1962, in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1984 with a degree in aerospace engineering. Curbeam also earned an M.S. in aeronautical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1990 and a degree in aeronautical & astronautical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1991.
