Winston E. Scott's first mission was a nine-day flight aboard STS-72 (Endeavour) in 1996, during which the crew retrieved the Space Flyer Unit satellite (launched from Japan ten months earlier). This flight included Scott's first spacewalk of 6 hours and 53 minutes. Scott was also part of the STS-87 (Columbia) mission in 1997. This was the fourth US Microgravity Payload flight, and Scott performed two more spacewalks. Scott earned an undergraduate degree in music from Florida State University in 1972. After graduation, he entered Naval Aviation Officer Candidate School. He earned an M.S. in aeronautical engineering from the US Naval Postgraduate School in 1980. Scott was born on August 6, 1950, in Miami, Florida. |
