For most of us, the term "remote sensing" usually results in a blank stare. However, even that blank stare demonstrates that everyone is actually more familiar with remote sensing than they think. Remote sensing is just a technical term for the secience of gathering data using a sensor that is not in immediate contact with the object being studied. So, when someone is staring at you, they are actually doing remote sensing! Our eyes are sensors gathering information about the world around us without our being in direct contact with those things.
