What
is the Physics Minor at Shippensburg University?
The Physics Minor is an academic minor that is designed to give the student
a solid background in Physics. By choosing his or her Physics electives
appropriately, a student could complement the knowledge gained in the
major.
For example,
a Chemistry major would benefit from taking courses in Quantum Mechanics
and Heat and Thermodynamics as part of their Physics minor. Or
a Mathematics major could take Mathematical Physics. A Computer
Science major could take Electronics to learn something about the
inner workings of the computer.
What
kind of career benefits can you expect?
A Physics minor on your resume' will certainly attract the attention
of prospective employers. It will show them that you have excellent problem
solving skills, a good background in applied mathematics, and a good understanding
of the basic rules governing the universe.
If you plan
on graduate school in Chemistry or Mathematics, you will certainly have
an advantage over other students without your background in Physics. A
Computer Science major with a minor in Physics would be particularly attractive
to an employer in an engineering firm.
What
is the Physics Minor curriculum?
The minor requires 24 credit hours of physics, with the appropriate
mathematics pre-requisites.
